As far as I’m concerned, if you’re old enough to be on the internet you likely remember a time when the internet was full of “free iphone 5 giveaway” on every social platform possible. It’s a period of time online that’s mostly passed by us now, but amidst her own giveaway scandel we’ve been bestowed a new release from hit vlogger and influencer with 99 followers biblemami.
For those who are completely out of the loop on whatever the hell I’m talking about, all I can offer in explanation is this singles notably creative promo strategy that caught my eye from it’s inception, but nobody is here to read me pick apart instagram promos. GIVENCHY is the latest single from biblemami, and it’s nothing short of a total throwback repackaged into something all new. The sound design choices and even rhythmic formatting of this song feels like a timecapsule back to 2012 when dubstep was at it’s peak, but it’s as if the time capsule itself was dismantled and put together with heaps of modern style and flair. The opening moments of this song definitely come on strong with a screaming wavetable synth acting essentially as an alarm, waking us up for what’s about to come. The opening verse that follows in a blend of abrassive effects, smooth synth chords, and a distinctly processed vocal line packed with attitude underneath it’s thick layer of effects and doubling.
The chorus that this all leads up to was really what brought me back the most. Cutting swiftly from its build we’re given a pulsing, fuzzily distorted saw-wave bass and drum combo that feels straight off something from my iTunes library circa 2011. None of that is to say it feels dated though, quite the contrary, as despite sparking something distinctly nostalgic in me, this song is nothing if not part of the ever-shifting cutting edge of genre-bending mixes that sprout from the underground. At it’s core, GIVENCHY effortlessly blends classic electronic styling with the abrasive yet clean soundscapes that I’ve grown to adore from the post-hyperpop movement without feeling the slightest bit derivative of anything that came before it.
biblemami is an artist I’ve been meaning to highlight for a long time at this point, with her 2023 track tapwater princess being part of the style guideline that initially sculpted what types of music we wanted to cover on AuraLink, so a release like this that blends so much of what I used to love with the things I’ve actively obsessed with feels like the perfect moment to shine a light on the sound she’s bringing to the table. If this release is at all indicative of what’s coming from biblemami in 2026, it’d be an understatement to say I’m excited for what’s to follow, and you’ll likely be hearing about it more from me if that’s the case.
